The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC) in conjunction with The Woodlands Township will soon begin construction of two spraygrounds in the new neighborhoods of May Valley in the Village of Sterling Ridge and Timarron in the Village of Creekside Park, according to Tim Welbes, president of TWDC. The Woodlands Township will operate and maintain the facilities once they are open. A sports playfield is also being added in Timarron Park.“We are pleased that the residents in these new neighborhoods will have a water feature as part of their neighborhood parks,” Welbes said. “We thank The Township for their support of this project, and look forward to opening these new amenities this summer.”The spraygrounds will be located within May Valley Park and Timarron Park, and have been carefully integrated into the design and theme of each park by Clark Condon Associates, Inc., landscape architect for the project. Each will be about 2,000 square feet in size and will contain environmentally-friendly recirculating water systems. The bases will be made from colorful, sun-deck coated concrete. The themed features will offer a variety of fun for toddlers and children as well as teenagers. There will be 12-13 play elements within each sprayground. In the spirit of the Pioneer theme in May Valley Park, the sprayground to be built there depicts two wagon wheels. Above-ground features will include the May Valley water tower at the center of one wagon wheel, and an interactive rising flag and horse cannons on the other. The “wheels” will be connected by a bridge that crosses over a grassy swale designed to help drainage in the park. The sprayground will be situated just north of the basketball court and adjacent to the existing open playfield off May Valley Circle.Inspired by the natural surroundings in the Village of Creekside Park, a water garden theme was chosen for the design of the new sprayground in Timarron Park. The sprayground will have an organic flower shape, and some of the above-ground play features will include bull frogs, cattails, flowers, snails and other garden creatures. The Timarron sprayground will be positioned near the pavilion off Timarron Drive. The new sports playfield will be located behind the pavilion.Construction of both spraygrounds and the playfield is expected to begin soon with opening planned for this June.
