Summerwood Elementary Receives Exemplary TEA Rating

Summerwood Elementary has been rated Exemplary, the highest of the four ratings assigned by the TEA, and one earned by only 25.8% of Texas public schools in 2009. An Exemplary  rating means that a campus must have at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) standard on each subject, including  Reading, English/Language Arts, Math, Writing, Social Studies and Science.  A campus must also have a dropout rate of 2 percent or less to earn an Exemplary rating. "We applaud the students and faculty of Summerwood Elementary School for their excellence in achievement," said Jennifer Taylor, vice president of marketing for Newland Communities, developer of Summerwood.  "We also congratulate all the parents and community members for helping to make Summerwood and Humble ISD one of the best places in Texas to get a great primary and secondary education."Two new Humble ISD schools serving Summerwood students opened in August, 2009, and a new onsite middle school is planned to open in 2010. Summer Creek High School opened just across Beltway 8 from Summerwood in August, and freshmen and sophomore students living in Summerwood will begin attending this new school for the 2009-10 academic year.  Juniors and seniors living in Summerwood will attend Atascocita High School, which has a Recognized TEA rating, for 2009-10.  Some Summerwood elementary age students are also zoned to attend the new Lakeshore Elementary School, also opened in August. In August, 2010, a new onsite middle school is planned to open in Summerwood, adjacent to a new YMCA facility which will provide athletic facilities for students.  For the 2009-10 academic year, Summerwood students attend Atascocita Middle School, which received an Academically Acceptable rating from TEA.
