While the economy is down, the nation’s donations to charities have unfortunately followed. Still, Houston area residents have the opportunity to make a big impact on the community next month. On Saturday, March 28 at Telfair in Sugar Land, the second annual TelfairLife Charity of Your Choice Walk will take place.
Walking Houstonians will benefit 13 Fort Bend area charities, including three new beneficiaries this year: Asians Against Domestic Abuse, Second Mile Mission Center, and Shape Up Sugar Land.
The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and a post-walk party will start at 10:30 a.m. Registration fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children (increased to $30 and $15 respectively after March 18), with 100% of the proceeds donated to each walker’s charity of choice. In addition, TelfairLife will donate $20,000 to the winners of several challenges, such as the charity that pre-registers the most walkers.
Benefiting charities will include: Fort Bend Family Promise, Child Advocates of Fort Bend, Fort Bend Community Partners Rainbow Room, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Fort Bend Education Foundation, Fort Bend county Women’s Center, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, The Arc of Fort Bend County, Literacy Council of Fort Bend County, Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Fort Bend.
The Charity of Your Choice Walk will take place rain or shine at the Cornerstone Elementary School, 1800 Chatham Ave. in Telfair, which has its main entrance at the U.S. 59 South and University Blvd. The location is also accessible via New Territory Blvd.
“Last year, the Charity of Your Choice Walk raised over $45,000 for Fort Bend charities. This year, with increased demand for the services provided by all of these worthy non-profit groups, we hope to raise even more money,” -- Kiva Mann, Community Coordinator for TelfairLife
