Construction has begun on one additional lane on the eastbound and westbound sides of Woodlands Parkway in The Woodlands from East Panther Creek Drive to Kuykendahl Road, according to Dan Kolkhorst, P.E., Vice President of Engineering & Construction for The Woodlands Development Company. Construction will begin on the eastbound lane. Two contractors will be building the sections of the roadway simultaneously. Hassell Construction Company, Inc. will be building the segment from East Panther Creek to Gosling, and South Coast Construction Company, Inc. will construct the segment from Gosling to Kuykendahl. The project will require temporary lane closures from time to time during construction, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2010. Traffic signals from East Panther Creek to Kuykendahl will also be modified.“The shoulder will be replaced with the new lanes of roadway, similar to what was done during the widening of Woodlands Parkway east of Grogan’s Mill Road,” Kolkhorst said. “We maintained the forested look of Woodlands Parkway during that expansion project, and we plan to preserve as much natural vegetation as possible during this phase of the project as well.”
