Steiner Ranch Harvest of Homes is This Weekend

On October 24th and 25th from noon to 4 each day, Steiner Ranch in Austin will have a Harvest of Homes Tour.  At the Welcome Center, there will be free photos in the pumpkin patch, as well as a super slide for the kiddos.  There will also be a lawn and garden expert from Home Depot.  At 3:00 both days, there will also be a dog costume contest at the Welcome Center, and the winners' owners will receive a gift card to Nordstrom. Steiner Ranch is located between Lake Travis and Lake Austin.

Building Green in Austin

Taylor O’Brien and Roberta Keosheyan of the Austin division of Partners in Building visited with an old friend this week. Terry and Cheryl Poulos moved to Austin's Sunset Valley from Chicago, and we had the privilege of designing and building their home. Terry is an avid fan of the environment and green building products. Their home has not only solar panels and rain water collection, but almost an entire acre of native organic landscaping designed by Terry himself.

NewHome Sales Up 8 Percent in Cinco Ranch

New-home sales in west Houston’s Cinco Ranch community are up 8% for the first nine months of 2009, compared to the same period in 2008. A total of 697 new homes were sold in Cinco Ranch during the first three quarters of 2009. That compares to 643 new homes sold during the same time last year in the 7,600-acre master-planned community. Relocation sales have remained strong in Cinco Ranch, accounting for one in three new-home sales in the community so far this year, according to Heather Gould, marketing director for Newland Communities.

New Home Sales Up 12 Percent in Telfair

New-home sales in Sugar Land’s Telfair community are up 12% for the first nine months of 2009, compared to the same period in 2008. A total of 347 new homes were sold in Telfair during the first three quarters of 2009. That compares to 313 new homes sold during the same time last year in the 2,018-acre master-planned community. Increased sales to existing Sugar Land residents helped Telfair achieve its sales increase in an overall market where sales are generally down, according to Heather Gould, marketing director for Newland Communities.

Summerwood Elementary Receives Exemplary TEA Rating

Summerwood Elementary has been rated Exemplary, the highest of the four ratings assigned by the TEA, and one earned by only 25.8% of Texas public schools in 2009. An Exemplary  rating means that a campus must have at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) standard on each subject, including  Reading, English/Language Arts, Math, Writing, Social Studies and Science.  A campus must also have a dropout rate of 2 percent or less to earn an Exemplary rating.
